Yandex Games + Godot 4.3 (Our experience)

We’ve made the browser game named Forest Delivery. It’s available on Itch.io and Yandex Games.

At this article we will describe our experience on Yandex Games platform shortly.

In the October of 2024 we’ve published the game on Yandex games library. About a 1000 players have played the game at the first two month of it being in the game catalog. We’ve got around 20 reviews for the game with the average rating of 4.0 out of 5 stars.

From 4.3 version the Godot Engine provides the easy way to use “single-threaded” html integration that suits Yandex Games as well.

Considering this, we’ve expected to easily add the game to the platform. Unfortunately, at this stage there is no official plugins for Yandex games integration. Moreover, it requires javascript knowledge that we don’t actually have. With all this, somehow by using unofficial plugins and a few moderation commits we were able to finally publish the game on the platform.

The number of daily players:

Average playtime: 5 minutes

Earnings: $2

Talking about earnings on Yandex Games, even with our bad experience I can say that it is actually possible to earn a lot there but the game should be addictive like some puzzle stuff or a card game. With our straight forward adventure game it’s pretty much impossible.

Conclusion on Yandex Games platform:

Considering the issues that we’ve had with the integration, I find no interest in using Yandex games at this stage as a Godot developer. If the game needs to be that much addictive, I see no difference on making it for Itch or Steam instead of Yandex with much better chances to actually earn money.
